What’s up, Hustlers!

We measure a lot of things.

Miles. Revenue. Followers. Promotions. PRs.

But here's a question for you:

How's your joy metric?

Not your productivity metric. Not your achievement metric. Your joy metric.

Are you spending time with people who light you up? Are you making space for things that make you laugh? Are you building a life that feels as good as it looks on paper?

This week, take inventory. Because your joy deserves as much intention as your goals.

.WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT.

My interview with THE Shonda Rhimes 🎙️ Today on Project Swagger, Shonda Rhimes, the creative force behind Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, Bridgerton, How to Get Away with Murder, and so many other iconic shows, joined me to share her genius with the Swagger Society community.

We dove into everything from creativity and leadership to motherhood, fear, and success. Shonda shared why creativity is a muscle that requires daily practice, how she's learned to let go of perfectionism, the importance of knowing your worth in negotiations, and why she encourages her children to "fit out" instead of fit in.

I’m so grateful that Shonda shared her time, wisdom, and perspective with this community. Tune in to hear which of her iconic characters she relates to most and the lessons she's learned from building one of the most influential creative careers of our time.

Trust me, you're going to want to listen to this one. Listen on YouTube, Spotify, Apple or wherever you get your podcasts.

.WHAT I’M ANSWERING.

“My strength training sessions are 20 minutes. Is that enough?" 🛑 I get this a lot. It's not my favorite question....

Time is not the metric. Stimulus is. If you’re lifting and reaching true muscular challenge in every set — the weight feels heavy, your form is the only thing keeping you going, the last rep is a fight — then yes, 20 minutes can absolutely be enough. That’s a training session.

If you’re moving through it comfortably and watching the clock, it doesn’t matter if you’re in there for 90 minutes. That’s not training.

For bone density and longevity, the research is clear: progressive overload wins. Going from 20-pound dumbbells to 30-pound dumbbells? That's the work. That's adaptation.

Stop counting minutes and chase struggle in the final 2 reps. Add load before you add time. For more, check out my recent Project Swagger episode on lifting heavy.

.WHAT I CELEBRATED.

Global Running Day 🏃🏽‍♀️ Last week was Global Running Day, and I celebrated the sport that changed my life. I wasn’t always a runner. I bought my first pair of running shoes on a whim in law school. One mile turned into two, and eventually into 27 marathons around the world (#28 soon 👀).

Running has given me so much more than finish lines. It’s introduced me to incredible people, taken me to amazing places, fueled my first New York Times bestseller, and taught me lessons that reach far beyond the road:

  1. The strongest muscle you'll train is your brain. The most important conversation you'll ever have is the one between your ears.

  2. Small promises kept daily will change your life. One run won't change you. Thousands of choices will.

  3. Being underestimated is a superpower. Let people doubt you. Then do the work anyway.

  4. Community takes you farther. Surround yourself with people who make you believe more is possible.

  5. You don't have to feel good to run fast. Some of my best runs started with every reason to stay home.

  6. When you look good, you feel good. Never underestimate the power of showing up with swagger.

  7. Discipline will take you farther than motivation ever will. Motivation is fleeting. Discipline is a lifestyle.

  8. Triumph requires hustle. The miles don't care about your excuses. Greatness takes grit.

  9. Every finish line becomes a new starting line. The ceiling you push against today becomes the floor you stand on tomorrow.

  10. Movement is medicine. When in doubt, move.

I'm grateful for that first pair of sneakers and for all the truths running has taught me along the way. What's the biggest lesson running has taught you?

Your Day One Ride x Yellow Challenge 💛 The final week of the Yellow Challenge is here, and next up is a Your Day One x Yellow Collection Ride.

I've loved seeing all of y'all push it on the Bike and the Tread these past few weeks. So many of your notes have said the same thing: this training feels hard... but good. That's exactly the point. Sprint training like this helps increase VO2 max, strengthen your heart, improve metabolic flexibility, and build next-level endurance.

Now it's time to bring it all together.

Join me on Thursday, 6/11 at 12:30PM EST, where we'll reflect on the last 100 days and set intentions for the next 100. Maybe that means chasing a new goal. Maybe it means showing up with more confidence. Maybe it means bringing a little more yellow energy into every part of your life. See you on the leaderboard, fam.

Question: What's the most underrated ingredient in your kitchen right now?

- Rachel

Answer: Nutritional yeast. Hands down.

If you're not already using it, consider this your sign. It adds a savory, cheesy flavor to just about everything without any dairy. As a vegan, I love that it's packed with nutrients, vitamins, and protein (8 grams of protein in 2 tablespoons!)

I sprinkle it on roasted veggies, popcorn, grain bowls, and it’s a key ingredient in my Creamy Alfredo Pasta from Eat to Hustle. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
