Plus: My go-to hydration hacks

Whatā€™s up, Hustlers!

It starts with curiosity.

I wasnā€™t an athlete growing up, and I definitely didnā€™t anticipate building a career around movement and sweat. But I seek out uncomfortable situations, because thatā€™s where I step into my power. Every new challenge brings both risks and rewards.

You just have to ask yourselfā€”do I want it more than I fear it?

Get curious about your strength and see what you can achieve.

 .WHAT Iā€™M LISTENING TO.

Lessons for Longevity šŸ§  Have you ever wondered how some people thrive into their 100s? In this podcast, National Geographic Fellow and longevity researcher Dan Buettner joins Scott Galloway to discuss the concept of Blue Zonesā€”areas where people live the longest, with lower rates of middle-age mortality and a higher number of centenarians. Hereā€™s what defines these incredible regions:

  • Purpose: Residents have a clear sense of their "why," which drives them daily.

  • Diet: A plant-based diet rich in whole grains, beans, vegetables, and nuts.

  • Movement: Natural physical activity is part of everyday lifeā€”walking, standing or moving every 20 minutes.

  • Social Connections: Strong support systems with family and friends are essential.

  • Community: Active participation in local events fosters connection and belonging.

  • Environment: Easy access to healthy food and supportive environments.

While a lot of the Blue Zones are defined by environment, I love Dan's practical and punchy advice for how anyone can bring Blue Zone living into their life today:

  • Curate Your Circle: Choose your friends wisely. Find your "wolfpack"ā€”the crew that pushes you to be your best self and lifts you up when times get tough. Maybe even include a vegan or vegetarian in your inner circleā€”they'll show you how to incorporate whole foods into your day-to-day!

  • Learn to Cook Plant-Based: Get a great plant-based cookbook (I love JoyFull by Radhi Devlukia-Shetty and The Plantpower Way by Rich Roll) and start whipping up delicious meals at home. Get together with your family on a Sunday to make a few recipes that can be stored for the week aheadā€”make it a fun bonding experience! The key is to discover recipes you love.

  • Move Naturally: Find ways to stay active throughout your dayā€”whether itā€™s walking, gardening, or diving into hobbies that keep you moving. Set an alarm on your phone to get up and move every 20 minutes.

 .WHAT Iā€™M SHARING.

Hydration Hacks šŸ’§ Between long runs, teaching classes, and playing with my kids, Iā€™ve learned that the right hydration routine can make or break how I feel. So, whether you're training for your next race or just trying to keep up with a busy day, these are my go-to hydration hacks to keep you cool, energized, and ready to show up strong:

1ļøāƒ£ Electrolytes. Hydration isnā€™t just about the water you drinkā€”itā€™s about giving your body the right balance of electrolytes. Electrolytes help regulate muscle function, brain activity, and energy levels. When you're deficient or imbalanced, it can show up as headaches, cramps, fatigue, brain fog, or even weakness, making it harder to perform at your best. Right now, Iā€™m loving LMNTā€™s electrolyte packets to keep me fueled and feeling strong. Each stick pack is packed with the essential electrolytes your body needs without any sugar or artificial ingredients šŸ’Æ.

Fave flavor: Raspberry Salt šŸ’•

2ļøāƒ£ Keep track of your hydration game. Whether it's marking your water bottle or using an app, make sure youā€™re hitting your intake goalsā€”your body will thank you.

3ļøāƒ£ Add some fun to your fuel. Throw fresh mint, cucumber, or fruit into your water and mix it with LMNT for a refreshing twist.

4ļøāƒ£ Snack smarter. Watermelon and cucumbers are hydration heroes packed with water.

5ļøāƒ£ Swap that coffee for herbal tea when you can. Coffee can leave you feeling dry, so switch it up with some tea instead.

What are your hydration hacks?

 .WHAT Iā€™M REFLECTING ON.

Athlos NYC šŸ”„ Last week at Athlos NYC was pure fire! The energy in the stands and the incredible athletes lighting up the track made it unforgettable. Athlos is shaking up womenā€™s sports, and I was honored to crown these powerhouse athletes and soak in their inspiring words for the next generation. Faith Kipyegon shared how motherhood has made her stronger, encouraging all the mamas to keep believing in themselves. Brittany Brown reminded us that weā€™re witnessing the future of the sport and pushing the boundaries of whatā€™s possible.

Iā€™m all in for this. Iā€™m here to push womenā€™s sports to the next level. šŸ’Ŗ

Question: What are some tips for getting in an early workout before heading to work, especially on those days when motivation feels low?

ā€” Cait

Answer: It's actually not about motivation; it's about momentum. It's creating a process that you can consistently engage in to reduce the friction, making the next best choice today to make tomorrow easier. Some of my favorite ways to do this areā€¦

1) Sleeping in my workout clothes.

2) Writing down my workout plan the night before, so I know exactly what Iā€™m tackling when I wake up.

3) Moving my phone into the other room so I have to get up when the alarm goes off.

Remember, small wins build big momentumā€”you've got this. šŸ’Ŗ

Menā€™s Health Latinx in Fitness Series šŸ‡µšŸ‡· šŸ‡ØšŸ‡ŗ For Latin & Hispanic Heritage Month, I chatted with Menā€™s Health to talk about embracing my heritage and breaking barriers for their Latinx in Fitness series. I shared my journey from corporate lawyer to fitness leader, how my culture shaped my path, and why visibility matters for our community. Check out the full article below!

Vegan Picadillo šŸ… šŸ  Last week, I shared one of my go-to family recipes: vegan picadillo with chickpeas and sweet potatoes. It keeps the sweet and salty flavor of traditionally picadillo while adding a boost of plant-based protein. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Thanks for reading, Hustlers. Go out there, pivot with power, and stay curious about whatā€™s next.
