šŸ‘‘ Resilience is in our DNA

Plus: Journaling prompts to invoke gratitude

What’s up, Hustlers!

I celebrated my birthday last week, and I’m incredibly grateful for all the well wishes y’all sent my way. ā¤ļø

I love getting older. I let go of the bullshit and focus more on my community, my goals, and the conversation I’m having with myself.

Birthdays remind me that we never know what the next year will bring. It’s all about showing up with gratitude, grit, and the belief that every chapter makes us stronger.

 .WHAT I’M CELEBRATING.

Latin & Hispanic Heritage Month šŸ‡µšŸ‡· šŸ‡ØšŸ‡ŗ So much of who I am is because of my upbringing. Being first-generation born in the United States, with parents from Cuba and Puerto Rico, I learned early on that resilience is in my DNA. My mother taught herself English by watching PBS, and my dad, who worked as a janitor at a CUNY college, put himself through school by auditing classes (like a real-life Good Will Hunting). Being surrounded by strong Latino role models taught me to live fearlessly, hustle with grit, and claim space in the world unapologetically.

For me, celebrating Latin & Hispanic Heritage Month is about owning your story, honoring your roots, and embracing what makes you, you. So, I sat down with my team to share some of the traditions and memories that have shaped me—and I want to know, what makes you who you are?

Q: Go-to Latinx dish?

  • A: It’s all about congri, flan and picadillo (recipe below!) – these dishes instantly take me back to family meals growing up.

Q: Favorite holiday or memory with your family?

  • A: Cooking with my abuela during the holidays was everything. The kitchen was where all the magic happened.

Q: Latinx author or book that has influenced you?

  • A: Isabel Allende and ā€œMy Broken Languageā€ by Quiara AlegrĆa Hudes—both authors remind me of the power of storytelling and owning your narrative.

Q: A childhood Latinx song or musician that brings back memories?

  • A: Gloria Estefan’s "Mi Tierra"—this song has been in the background of so many moments in my life. It’s like a time machine to my roots.

Q: What are some of your favorite Latinx-owned brands or businesses you are currently loving?

  • A: Right now, I’m all about Ceremonia—their hair products are total game-changers. My "Jefa" necklace from Hija De Tu Madre? Obsessed. Black Rican Vegan is hands down the BEST for big catering orders in NYC. Loisa spices are a staple in my kitchen anytime I’m cooking Latin dishes. And Eva Longoria’s new collab with Siete? Epic partnership. Loving it all.

 .WHAT I’M COOKING.

Vegan Picadillo šŸ  šŸ… For Latin & Hispanic Heritage Month, I’m putting a fresh spin on one of my all-time favorite Latin dishes—picadillo. Growing up, picadillo was a must at my abuela’s house. It was a staple at every family dinner and holiday. Traditionally, it’s made with beef, but using this recipe I swapped in chickpeas and sweet potatoes to keep the sweet and salty flavor while loading it up with plant-based protein. I love serving it over quinoa or rice for a solid carb source, perfect for fueling a long run or an intense strength session. šŸ’Ŗ

Give the recipe a try and let me know what you think!

. WHAT I’M JOURNALING ABOUT.

Gratitude ā£ļø Amidst the hustle of back-to-school chaos, I’ve been focusing on gratitude—being present for the little things that bring joy and peace. It’s easy to overlook the simple moments, but taking inventory of everything you’re thankful for - no matter how small - makes you realize just how much you actually have.

Here are a few of my favorite journaling prompts to invoke daily gratitude:

  • A moment that made me smile today…

  • Someone who made me laugh today…

  • A challenge that taught me a lesson today…

  • Something I accomplished today…

This week, I wrote about being grateful for winding down the day with my kids during bath time. Taking care of my family is part of taking care of myself. And finding these little moments to be present helps keep me grounded and grateful, even in the chaos.

Lately, I’ve been loving NOWĀ® Baby body care products for our nightly routine. The lavender and gentle ingredients like calendula help calm both the kiddos and me after a busy day. Plus, it’s vegan and free of harsh chemicals, so I can feel good about what I’m using on their skin. Use code PIVOTBABY for 20% off all NOWĀ® Baby products valid now through 10/31/24. ATHLOS NYC IS HERE IN TWO DAYS šŸƒā€ā™€ļø

I’m pumped to be part of Athlos NYC, a women’s-only track event happening for one night only at Icahn Stadium on September 26th. As a commentator, I’ll be joining some of the fastest women in the world, including Olympians like Gabby Thomas, Alexis Holmes, Faith Kipyegon, and more. These athletes are about to light up the track, bringing all the speed, sound, and swagger NYC is known for.

Plus, Megan Thee Stallion will take the stage, with DJ D-Nice setting the vibe. Doors open at 5 PM—don’t miss out! Grab your tickets now!

Thanks for reading, Hustlers. Go out there, pivot with power, and stay curious about what’s next.
