šŸ‘‘ Write yourself a love letter

Plus: My go-to #pursesnacks

What’s up, Hustlers!

I don’t wish for the work to get easier.

I wish to get stronger, sharper, and more precise.

It’s the steady, ā€œboring,ā€ day-in, day-out hustle where the real wins are found.

Falling in love with the process? That’s where you start smashing goals and surprising yourself.

 .WHAT’S IN MY BAG.

#PurseSnacks šŸ‘› If you know me, you know I always travel with snacks (just ask Drew!) I get a lot of questions about what I bring with me, so I wanted to share a few of my go-to #pursesnacks that keep me fueled and ready to crush my day:

  • Protein bars: After tough workouts, your muscles need protein to repair microtears and build new tissue. Having protein shortly after exercise helps maximize muscle recovery and growth. Protein bars are a quick and easy way to refuel on the go, so I always keep one handy.

  • Dried fruit: Packed with vitamins and natural sugars for a quick energy boost, dried mango, dates or apricots are easy to pack for a healthy pick-me-up.

  • Overnight oats: Loaded with fiber, protein, and healthy carbs, overnight oats are an easy, filling breakfast before a workout. They’re super simple to pack and prep. Need a recipe? Check out my favorite Chocolate PB Protein Overnight Oats.

  • Bananas: Packed with potassium and fiber, bananas are a great way to boost energy and keep those muscles happy and cramp-free.

  • Peanut butter pretzels: The perfect mix of salty and sweet, these are my go-to snack at the movies or when I need a quick bite on the go.

  • Pique teas: I’m never without my Pique tea packets. My two faves right now are the Sun Goddess Matcha and La Ginger. The matcha gives me an energizing blend of caffeine and calming L-theanine to keep me focused and fueled. The La Ginger is my go-to for a natural detox boost.  .WHAT I’M JOURNALING.

A love letter to myself šŸ’Œ World Mental Health Day was on October 10th, and for me, it was a good reminder to pause and reflect on how we speak to ourselves. It’s easy to focus on what we need to improve, but how often do we celebrate who we already are? I decided to do something simple yet powerful: I wrote myself a love letter.

Here’s what I want you to think about:

  • What are some of your best qualities?

  • What do you bring to the world and those around you?

  • What are you most proud of? (Tiny victories count!)

For example: I love my drive, work ethic, resilience, and take-no-shit attitude.

Write it all down in a letter to yourself. Then, read it over and over until you believe it.

 .WHAT I’M SHARING.

Ways to keep your runs interesting šŸƒā€ā™€ļøI know it’s running season for a lot of marathoners (NYC is just a few weeks away!) and many of you are deep in the miles. While long training runs can get repetitive, switching things up can make a big difference in your mindset. To keep things fresh and fun, here are my top tips for staying engaged during your runs:

  • Fartlek it up! Fartlek means "speed play" in Swedish and is a flexible form of interval training. My favorite? Alternating between jogging one block and sprinting the next. Before you know it, the run is over!

  • Hit the trails. If you’re used to pounding the pavement, take a detour through a park or nature preserve. The softer ground is easier on your joints, and the scenery change can help you recharge.

  • Find a running buddy. A familiar route can feel brand new with good company. Plus, meeting someone for a run makes it easier to stay accountable.

  • Commute to a new route. It might take some extra time, but traveling to a new location can make your run more enjoyable. Search for popular running routes online or through local running communities to discover new paths in your area.

  • Inject speed bursts. If you’re feeling sluggish or bored mid-run, try injecting some short speed bursts. Set your watch for 30 seconds and sprint. Sometimes all it takes is a burst of adrenaline to get you out of a funk.

Question: I am trying to land a new job in an industry I am passionate about, but don’t have that much experience yet. Any advice?

— John

Answer: Lead with passion and storytelling. Have a willingness to start from zero and learn from the bottom. Put in the work. I love Malcolm Gladwell’s idea that putting in 10,000 hours is the key to success. Commit to being a lifetime learner and practice humility. You have to be comfortable with being the person who doesn’t know as much. Don’t let your ego get in the way.
